Thesaurus

Thesaurus = from the Greek word for 'treasury'

Thesaurus = from Greek meaning treasure chest of words

Reading Roy Peter Clark’s, “The Glamour of Grammar,” I stumbled upon this great tidbit of etymology. The word “thesaurus” comes from the Greek word for “treasury.” Or as Clark translatesย it, “a book that is a treasure chest of words.” What a beautiful concept.
